About Us

Protected Home is the consumer products division of Control Products, Inc., a world leader in electronic design and manufacturing with factories in Minnesota and China.

Founded in 1985, Control Products has grown to become a global manufacturing and distribution company with three divisions:

• Protected Home: The consumer products division selling home protection products for temperature monitoring, water alarms for leak detection and home security.
• Standard Products: Our off-the-shelf controls division with a variety of temperature alarms, humidity, pressure, infrared, timers, and proximity controls.
• Custom OEM: Designs and manufactures a broad array of custom control circuits.

Protected Home sells its products through retailers, catalog companies, on-line retailers, dealers and wholesale heating, plumbing, electrical and industrial supply distributors worldwide.

Protected Home is based in Chanhassen, Minnesota, a suburb of Minneapolis.  Our several hundred employees enjoy golfing on our very own 2 hole golf course during our short, but warm summers.  Minnesota winters are legendary with International Falls, Minnesota often recording the coldest temperature in the nation on many days.  It is our Minnesota winters, however, that helped define our Protected Home division.  The FreezeAlarm was first introduced to the public in 1987.  This remote temperature-monitoring product has evolved to now include four models with our latest Wireless FreezeAlarm offering even the largest home affordable protection from frozen pipes.

Today, Protected Home manufactures and distributes remote temperature alarms, water alarms and home security and automation products throughout the world.  Our products have been featured on the Today Show, HGTV, countless local television news programs and our WaterAlarm Plus and MiniAlarm Plus were awarded the Popular Mechanics Editor’s Choice Award in 2006.  Home Automation magazine named our FreezeAlarm product line one of their Products of the Year in 2004.

• Lead Free Manufacturing Worldwide. We were the first in our industry to establish a RoHS manufacturing facility which means all of the consumer products we manufacture are 100% lead free. All three of our manufacturing facilities are now RoHS compliant.
• Manage supply chains of the components we buy to reduce packaging and waste materials and establish short lead times to keep inventory stocks fresh and eliminate wasting materials that expire.
• Innovative measures to reduce our energy consumption and thus make our carbon footprint a little smaller.
